Clinical/research stroke fellowship

CLINICAL PROGRAM

We have a busy clinical program based at Vancouver General Hospital with separate stroke ward/acute stroke and consult services, and stroke prevention clinic. We assess over 1500 emergency and inpatients and over 2000 outpatients annually and provide telephone advice coverage for the entire province and the Yukon. We have 24/7/365 endovascular coverage and have excellent and close working relationships with our neuroradiology and neurosurgery colleagues. Our group has seven fellowship-trained stroke neurologists and one general neurologist with an interest in stroke.

EDUCATIONAL AND RESEARCH PROGRAM

Our educational program includes weekly didactic lectures, clinical rounds, stroke fellow seminar and journal club. All of our fellows are involved in clinical research. Our research expertise includes clinical trials, cerebral small vessel disease, post-stroke cognition and patient-centered post-stroke issues, cerebral venous thrombosis, and data-driven decision-making in acute care. We are an active participating site for several national and international stroke clinical trials and have three full-time research co-ordinators and three undergraduate research assistants.
